US Championships 2002 The US Championships took place 5th-13th January 2002 in Seattle. There were 56 players in the event including for the first time 12 women (the highest placed woman takes their title). Larry Christiansen won the US Championships after a blitz playoff against Nick De Firmian. They tied a four game blitz match at 4 games of 5 minutes + 1 sec a move, Christiansen won a one off final game with white against De Firmian white having 6 mins and black 5 mins black had draw odds.
