Bundesliga 2009-10 (10)

Anand's Baden Baden defeated

Baden Baden including Viswanathan Anand were defeated by Werder Bremen in Round 10 of the Bundesliga.

There was a surprise result in the German Bundesliga as Baden Baden included the world champion Vishy Anand in one of the strongest club teams ever assembled yet lost to their rivals Werder Bremen. Six games were drawn but England's Michael Adams lost as did the only German in the 16 player contest, Arkady Naiditsch.

Baden-Baden still lead, but only on game points as they, Werder Bremen and Solingen have 20/22 match points. Two matches remain.

Anand won his second game quite nicely.

12...Nd7 is an unusual move, Kasparov has played Bf8, Bd7 and Nxd4. 12...Bd7 13.Nb3 Na5 14.Nxa5 Qxa5 15.Qd3 led to a win for Anand against Kasparov in their WCC title contest at the World Trade Centre in 1995.

(Allowing a combination, 21...Bxd4 22.Rxd4 Qxe5 23.Re1 and 22.Qxd4 Qxe5 23.Nd6 are also pleasant for White)

Black loses his queen.

4.Qa4 is certainly a direct attempt to exploit the absence of the bishop from the queenside and 12.Ba6! is a killer move
