British Championships 2010 (Preview)
Michael Adams entry boosts British Championships
IM Malcolm Pein - Tuesday 1st June 2010
This year's British Chess Championships have benefited from the entry of England's number one Michael Adams.
There was good news and bad news for the ECF at the end of last week. I feared an uncompetitive British Championships this year but Adam Raoof, the Director of Home Chess, has secured the participation of Michael Adams at this year's event being staged at the University of Canterbury from 25th July to 11th August. Unfortunately chess fell victim to the first round of government cuts and the DCMS grant for 2010/11 to the ECF will be reduced from £60,000 to £45,000. This will hit an already impoverished federation hard and represents a cut in total income of over 10%.
My thanks to Peter Gibbs for informing me that IM Colin Crouch of Harrow has been selected for the International Braille Chess Association 2010 Olympiad team.
