Werder Bremen drop vital point
IM Malcolm Pein - Thursday 25th March 2010
Luke McShane's Werder Bremen dropped a vital point in their quest for the Bundesliga title when they drew their eleventh round match and saw their rivals win.
Luke McShane's Werder Bremen dropped a vital point in their quest for the Bundesliga title when they drew their twelvth round match and saw their rivals win. Werder Bremen lie third with two rounds to play. Baden Baden lead with Solingen but Baden Baden will win on tie break if both teams win their final match. McShane has a successful weekend, drawing with black against the former Russian champion Alexander Motylev and winning the game below.
An English GM plays the English Attack against the Najdorf. 12.Bd3 is unusual, White usually starts the attack with g2-g4 and a pawn storm. Prophylaxis works well, Be3-c1, Kc1-b1-a1 limits Black's counterplay and McShane gradually makes inroads on the other wing.

Black's plan is too slow. He is trying to organise Qc8-b7 and b6-b5 when White strikes.
